Hosta require shade to flourish. However,
those with thick yellow or solid green foliage can often handle
more sun (partial shade), if the roots are kept slightly moist.
As a rule of thumb, space hosta at a distance equalling 1-1.5
times their height. Hosta prefer a moist, well drained soil.
Additional watering may be necessary to prevent leaves from
scorching or browning during drought; a good mulch can alleviate
much of this problem. If fertilization is required an annual
application of compost and bone meal worked into the soil
is adequate. As flowers fade, cut flower stalks at the base
and remove dead foliage after a heavy frost. Height, 3-36",
